Low Retention Pipette Tips, Every Drop Counts

Low retention tips, also known as low binding tips, are specially designed pipette tips that reduce the adhesion of various materials like DNA, enzymes, proteins, and cells to the tip surface. These tips are made using polymer technology that makes the inner surface of the pipette tip more hydrophobic, resulting in a significant reduction in sample loss due to adhesion. Compared to ordinary pipette tips, low retention pipette tips reduce sample retention by three to five times. These tips are designed to improve sample accuracy, increase reliability, save expensive reagents, deliver samples precisely and are 100% inert. Overall, low retention pipette tips offer improved liquid handling and less liquid retention, making them a valuable tool in the laboratory.

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE LOW RETENTION ACCUMAX TIPS

MATERIALS AND METHOD

In this study liquid retention of various tips were determined from different major manufacturing brands.1000μl low retention tips from Accumax was compared with three other competitors’ tips and were used for UV-VIS Spectrophotometry analysis for checking retention of residual liquid in the tip. The green dye solution was prepared as per below standard concentration range. The standards were scanned in the UV-VIS range from 200-800nm to identify absorbance maxima of the colored dye. Absorbance maximum was observed at 430nm for green color dye.

CONCLUSION

Accumax low retention tips shows best retention capacity compared to Competitor E tips which is almost two times more than Accumax tips. whereas tips from Competitor J and Competitor T show retention capacity of 8x and 3x less respectively compared to Accumax low retention tips.
